Newly laid turf really needs to be watered within half an hour of finishing laying. It is important to give the turf a really good soaking and to make sure that the water has soaked through the turf into the underlying soil. To check that this has happened turn up a corner of a turf making sure that you firm it down again afterwards.

Watering must be repeated until the turf is established. Weather conditions will obviously dictate the frequency of watering but it is essential to ensure that your new lawn has enough moisture to survive hot, dry or windy weather conditions. If your lawn was laid in a hot dry period, watering should be repeated at least three times a day for the first few days otherwise twice a day should be sufficient for the first week. For the following 2 weeks or more and depending on the weather conditions the lawn will need watering perhaps be 2 to 3 times a week and after 3-6 weeks only once a week.

If, however, at any time there are signs of the turf drying out it should be watered immediately.
